Your Account
Manage your Mapiry account settings including your profile information, username, email, and password.
Creating an Account
Sign Up
- Click "Sign Up" in the navigation
- Enter your email and create a password
- Verify your email (check inbox for verification link)
- You're ready to create maps!
Note: You can also create maps as an anonymous user and convert to a full account later. When you sign up, any anonymous maps you created (in the same browser) will automatically be claimed to your account.
Profile Settings
Access your account settings from the dashboard navigation menu under Profile.
Display Name
Your display name appears on your public profile and maps you create.
To update:
- Go to dashboard > Profile
- Find the Name field
- Enter your new name
- Click Update Profile
Username
Your username is used in your public profile URL: mapiry.com/u/yourusername
To set or update:
- Go to dashboard > Profile
- Find the Username section
- Enter your desired username (preceded by @)
- Click Save Username
Username requirements:
- Minimum 3 characters
- Maximum 30 characters
- Can contain: letters, numbers, underscores (_), hyphens (-)
- Must be unique across all Mapiry users
- Cannot contain spaces or special characters
Email Address
Your email is used for login and account notifications.
To change your email:
- Go to dashboard > Profile
- Find the Email field
- Enter your new email address
- Click Update Profile
- Verify your new email address (check inbox for confirmation link)
Your old email remains active until you verify the new one.
Password Management
Change Your Password
- Go to dashboard > Profile
- Scroll to the Change Password section
- Enter your Current Password
- Enter your New Password (minimum 8 characters)
- Confirm New Password
- Click Update Password
Password requirements:
- Minimum 8 characters
- No maximum length
- Can include letters, numbers, and special characters
Forgot Password
If you forget your password:
- Go to the login page
- Click "Forgot password?"
- Enter your email address
- Check your email for a password reset link
- Click the link and create a new password
The reset link expires after 24 hours.
Public Profile
Your public profile is accessible at mapiry.com/u/yourusername and displays:
- Your display name and username
- Your public maps (maps you've made public)
- Basic profile information
Note: Anyone can view your public profile and your public maps. If you haven't set a username, you won't have a public profile page.
What's NOT Available
Mapiry account settings do NOT include:
- Profile pictures/avatars - No avatar upload
- Bio or description - No about me section
- Social links - No website, Twitter, etc. fields
- Location field - No city/country setting
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) - No additional security options
- Active sessions management - Can't view or sign out other devices
- Login history - No login attempt logs
- Email preferences - No notification settings (all account emails are sent)
- Email frequency controls - No digest options
- Privacy settings - Can't control profile visibility beyond public/private maps
- Default map privacy - No setting for new map default visibility
- Analytics preferences - No opt-out for analytics
- Data sharing controls - No granular data preferences
- Account deactivation - No temporary deactivation option
- Data export - No account data download
- Connected accounts - No Google/GitHub login (email/password only)
- Third-party integrations - No Zapier, webhooks, etc.
- API keys - No API access
- Usage limits display - No quota tracking in settings
- Usage alerts - No notifications for approaching limits

Troubleshooting
Can't log in
- Check email and password spelling
- Try password reset
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Try a different browser or incognito mode
Email not received
- Check spam/junk folder
- Verify email address is correct
- Wait a few minutes (emails can be delayed)
- Try requesting a new verification email
Username already taken
- Try a different username
- Add numbers or underscores to your preferred username
- Check if you already have an account with that username
Can't change email
- Make sure you're entering your current password correctly
- Verify the new email isn't already registered
- Try logging out and back in
Password reset link expired
- Reset links expire after 24 hours
- Request a new password reset link
- Check you're using the most recent email
Account Deletion
Note: Account deletion functionality is not currently available in the user interface.
If you need to delete your account:
- Contact support through the contact page
- Request account deletion
- Support will process your request
What happens when your account is deleted:
- All your maps and locations are deleted
- Your public profile is removed
- Your username becomes available for others
- Analytics data is anonymized
- Billing records are retained for legal/tax purposes (if applicable)
⚠️ Warning: Account deletion cannot be undone. Make sure to export any maps you want to keep before requesting deletion.
