Find solutions to common issues with Mapiry. If your problem isn't listed here, contact support via the contact page.

Map Issues

Map Won't Load

Try these steps:

  1. Refresh the page (Ctrl/Cmd + R)
  2. Clear browser cache and cookies
  3. Try incognito/private browsing mode
  4. Use a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  5. Check your internet connection
  6. Disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers)

Map is Slow

Speed up performance:

  • If you have many locations (500+), consider splitting into multiple maps
  • Use a simpler base map style (light or streets instead of satellite)
  • Close other browser tabs using heavy resources
  • Check your internet speed
  • Try a different browser

Map Not Saving Changes

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Log out and log back in
  3. Try from a different browser
  4. Verify you're logged in (anonymous maps have limited persistence)
  5. Contact support if issue persists

Location Issues

Locations in Wrong Place

Fix geocoding errors:

  1. Click on the location marker to see its info
  2. You can drag the marker to the correct position
  3. Or delete the location and re-add it with a more specific address

Prevent future errors:

  • Use full addresses with city, state, and postal code
  • Include business names for better results
  • For obscure locations, use coordinates if you know them
  • Verify locations after AI generation or CSV import

Improve search results:

  • Be more specific: "Starbucks Pike Place Seattle WA" vs "coffee shop"
  • Include city and state/country
  • Try alternative names or spellings
  • If you know the coordinates, you can enter them directly

Location Not Showing on Map

  1. Check if the location is marked as "hidden"
  2. Verify it's not filtered out by category filters
  3. Refresh the map
  4. Check that coordinates are valid (latitude: -90 to 90, longitude: -180 to 180)

AI Generation Issues

AI Generation Failed

Common causes:

  • Insufficient tokens for the operation (map generation costs ~25 tokens, adding locations costs ~15 tokens)
  • Prompt too vague or complex
  • Service temporarily unavailable
  • Network timeout

Solutions:

  • Check your token balance on the billing page
  • Simplify your prompt
  • Be more specific (include exact location/city)
  • Wait and try again (tokens reset daily for logged-in users)
  • Create an account if you're anonymous
  • Upgrade to Pro for 3,000 tokens per month

AI Results Not Relevant

Improve prompts:

  • Add more detail: "vegan restaurants" not just "restaurants"
  • Always include location: "in Portland, Oregon"
  • Specify quantity: "top 10..."
  • Add criteria: "with outdoor seating", "under $20", "near downtown"

AI Generated Wrong Number of Locations

  • AI finds up to 10 locations per generation
  • Results depend on what's available and matches your criteria
  • Be less restrictive if you want more results
  • Try broader search terms
  • You can run multiple AI generations to add more locations
  • Manually add more locations after AI generation

Sharing & Privacy Issues

Can't Make Map Public

  1. Verify you're the map owner
  2. Log in (anonymous maps can be public but expire after 30 days)
  3. Click the Share button and toggle "Make Public"
  4. Try refreshing the page
  1. Verify map is set to Public in Share settings
  2. If using a temporary access token, check that it hasn't expired (24 hours)
  3. Try the link in incognito mode
  4. Check for typos in the URL
  5. Try generating a new access token if using private sharing

Others Can't View My Map

  1. Confirm map privacy is set to "Public"
  2. If using an access token for a private map, share both the map link AND the token
  3. Verify the share link is correct
  4. Ask viewer to try a different browser
  5. Check if viewer's network or firewall blocks mapiry.com

Embed Issues

Embed Not Showing

Check these:

  1. Map must be public (private maps cannot be embedded)
  2. Iframe code must be complete and unmodified
  3. Your website must allow iframes
  4. Check CSP (Content Security Policy) headers on your site
  5. Verify no ad blockers are blocking the iframe
  6. Your website must use HTTPS (mixed content is blocked)

Test embed:

  • Create a simple HTML file with just the embed code
  • Open it locally in your browser
  • If it works there, the issue is with your website configuration

Embed Shows Wrong Map or Error

  • Verify the map ID in the embed URL is correct
  • Check if the map was deleted
  • Ensure the map is still public
  • Regenerate the embed code from the Share dialog

Embed is Wrong Size

Adjust dimensions:

  • Edit width and height attributes in the iframe code
  • Use width="100%" for responsive width that fills the container
  • Set fixed height in pixels: height="500px"
  • Use CSS to style the iframe element itself (not the content inside)

Controls Cut Off in Embed

  • Increase the iframe height value
  • Use the URL parameter controls=false if you don't need zoom/fullscreen buttons
  • Check that your parent container isn't constraining the size

Account Issues

Can't Log In

  1. Verify your email and password (check for typos and caps lock)
  2. Try password reset (link on login page)
  3. Clear browser cookies and cache
  4. Try a different browser
  5. Disable browser extensions temporarily

Didn't Receive Verification Email

  1. Check your spam/junk folder
  2. Wait 5-10 minutes (emails can be delayed)
  3. Try requesting a new verification email
  4. Check that you entered the correct email address
  5. Contact support if you still haven't received it

Can't Change Username

  1. Make sure you're logged in
  2. Go to Dashboard > Profile
  3. Enter your desired username in the Username section
  4. Usernames must be 3-30 characters, letters/numbers/underscores/hyphens only
  5. If "username taken" error, try a different one
  • Reset links expire after 24 hours
  • Request a new password reset link
  • Make sure you're using the most recent email
  • Check that the link wasn't broken by email client formatting

Import Issues

CSV Import Failed

Common issues:

  1. Missing required columns (name, lat/latitude, lng/longitude)
  2. Invalid coordinates (non-numeric values)
  3. Wrong file format (must be .csv)
  4. Encoding issues (should be UTF-8)

Fix:

  • Verify your CSV has the required column headers
  • Check that lat/lng values are numbers
  • Test with a smaller file (5-10 locations) first

KML Import Failed

Common issues:

  1. Invalid KML/KMZ format
  2. File too large
  3. Unsupported KML features

Fix:

  • Verify the file is valid KML/KMZ
  • Test with a simpler KML file first
  • Check that your KML has placemarks with coordinates

Browser-Specific Issues

Safari

  • Enable cross-site tracking if maps aren't loading
  • Clear Safari cache: Safari > Clear History
  • Disable content blockers temporarily for mapiry.com

Firefox

  • Check Enhanced Tracking Protection settings (Firefox > Preferences > Privacy)
  • Allow cookies for mapiry.com
  • If using strict privacy mode, add mapiry.com to exceptions

Chrome

  • Check Site Settings for mapiry.com (click padlock icon in address bar)
  • Clear site data: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Disable extensions in incognito mode to test

Edge

  • Similar to Chrome (Edge is Chromium-based)
  • Check SmartScreen settings
  • Allow cookies for mapiry.com

Mobile Issues

Maps Not Working on Mobile

  1. Update your mobile browser to the latest version
  2. Enable JavaScript in browser settings
  3. Clear mobile browser cache and data
  4. Try desktop mode if available
  5. Use a different mobile browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

Can't Interact with Map on Mobile

  • Use two-finger gestures to pan (drag) and zoom (pinch)
  • Tap markers to see location details
  • Some features work better on desktop (like AI generation)
  • Try rotating device if layout looks wrong

Anonymous Map Issues

Lost My Anonymous Maps

Why this happens:

  • Anonymous maps are tied to your browser's stored data
  • If you clear browser data, tokens are lost
  • Maps expire after 30 days of no access

Solutions:

  • Create an account before clearing browser data
  • When you sign up, anonymous maps with tokens in your browser are automatically claimed
  • Use the same browser to access anonymous maps

Can't Edit My Anonymous Map Anymore

  • Edit tokens expire after 30 days of inactivity
  • You may have cleared browser data
  • Try the original browser/device where you created the map
  • Create an account next time to prevent this

Error Messages

"Rate limit exceeded"

You've run out of tokens for AI operations:

  • Logged-in Free users: 50 tokens per day
  • Anonymous users: 50 tokens lifetime (IP-based)
  • Logged-in Pro users: 3,000 tokens per month

Different operations cost different amounts:

  • Generate map: ~25 tokens
  • Add locations: ~15 tokens
  • Generate description: ~1 token

Solutions:

  • Wait until the next day (tokens reset daily at midnight UTC)
  • Create an account if you're anonymous
  • Upgrade to Pro for higher limits

"Map not found"

  • The map may have been deleted
  • Check that the map ID/slug in the URL is correct
  • If it's an anonymous map, it may have expired (30 days)
  • Try accessing it from the original browser if anonymous

"Geocoding limit reached"

You've used 1,000 geocoding requests today (applies to all logged-in users).

Solutions:

  • Wait until tomorrow (limits reset daily)
  • Use coordinates instead of addresses for manual location entry
  • Import locations with coordinates pre-calculated

"Maximum map limit reached"

You've created 10 maps (Free plan limit).

Solutions:

  • Delete unused or old maps
  • Upgrade to Pro for unlimited maps
