General Questions
Q: Is Mapiry free to use?
A: Yes! Mapiry offers a free tier with up to 10 maps, 50 credits per day for AI operations, and 1,000 geocoding requests per day. Pro plans start at $9/month for unlimited maps and 3,000 credits per month.
Q: Do I need to create an account?
A: No, you can create maps as an anonymous user. Anonymous users get 50 lifetime credits and maps expire after 30 days of inactivity. Creating an account gives you permanent storage, higher limits, and analytics.
Q: Can I use Mapiry for commercial purposes?
A: Yes, both free and Pro plans allow commercial use. Check our Terms of Service for details.
Q: Is my data secure?
A: Yes. We use industry-standard encryption and secure servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Can I export my data?
A: Not currently. Export features are planned for a future release.
Creating Maps
Q: How do I create a map?
A: Click "Create with AI" on the homepage or from your dashboard. Describe your desired map (e.g., "top sushi restaurants in Tokyo") and AI generates locations for you. You can also add locations manually. See our Quick Start Guide.
Q: What's the AI map generator?
A: Describe your desired map in plain English and AI creates a complete map with locations. Operations cost credits: generating a map costs 25 credits, adding locations costs 15 credits, and generating descriptions costs 1 credit. See our Limits guide for full details.
Q: Can I import locations from a spreadsheet?
A: Yes! Import from CSV or KML/KMZ files. Go to your map > three-dot menu > Import. See our CSV Import Guide and KML Import Guide.
Q: How many locations can I add to a map?
A: There's no hard limit on locations per map. However, performance may degrade with very large numbers of locations (1000+).
Q: Can I use custom markers?
A: No. Markers use category colors automatically. You cannot upload custom marker icons or images.
Sharing & Embedding
Q: How do I share my map?
A: Make your map public by clicking the Share button and toggling "Make Public" ON. You can then share the link directly, or share on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, or via email.
Q: Can I password-protect my map?
A: Yes, using temporary access tokens (Pro feature). Click Share > Private tab > Generate Access Token. Tokens expire after 24 hours (not customizable).
Q: How do I embed a map on my website?
A: Make your map public, click Share > Embed tab, customize your settings, and copy the iframe code. Paste it into your website's HTML. See Embedding Maps.
Q: Can I remove Mapiry branding from embeds?
A: Yes, with Pro! Use the hideAttribution=true URL parameter in your embed code.
Q: Do embedded maps update automatically?
A: Yes! Changes you make to your map appear immediately in all embeds.
Pricing & Billing
Q: What's included in the free plan?
A: 10 maps maximum, 50 credits per day for AI operations, public maps only, 1,000 geocoding requests per day, basic analytics (views/shares/likes), and embeds with Mapiry branding.
Q: What does Pro include?
A: Unlimited maps, 3,000 credits per month for AI operations, private maps, 1,000 geocoding requests per day, white-label embeds (hide attribution), and all Free features. See Pro Features.
Q: How much does Pro cost?
A: $9/month or $90/year.
Q: Can I try Pro before paying?
A: Pro trials are not currently available.
Q: Can I cancel anytime?
A: Yes, contact support to cancel your Pro subscription.
Q: How does the monthly credit limit work for Pro?
A: Pro users get 3,000 AI credits per month that reset on your billing anniversary date. This gives you more flexibility than daily limits - you can use more credits on some days and fewer on others as long as you stay within your monthly limit.
Technical Questions
Q: What browsers are supported?
A: Modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Mobile browsers are fully supported.
Q: Can I use Mapiry offline?
A: No, Mapiry requires an internet connection to view and edit maps.
Q: Does Mapiry have an API?
A: No, there is no public API currently available.
Q: Can I integrate with other tools?
A: No, there are no integrations with Zapier, webhooks, or other tools.
Q: What map data does Mapiry use?
A: We use Mapbox for base maps and geocoding, which sources from OpenStreetMap and commercial providers.
Q: Can I use custom base maps?
A: No. You can choose from 5 Mapbox styles: streets, satellite, light, dark, and outdoors.
Collaboration
Q: Can multiple people edit the same map?
A: No. Maps can only be edited by their owner. However, you can clone public maps to create your own editable copy.
Q: Can I share editing access?
A: No. You can share view access using temporary tokens (24-hour expiration), but not editing access.
Q: What about team plans?
A: Team plans are not currently available.
Data & Privacy
Q: What data do you collect?
A: We collect basic analytics (views per 24h per IP/user, shares by platform, likes by IP/user) for public maps. See our Privacy Policy.
Q: Is Mapiry GDPR compliant?
A: Yes. For analytics, we hash IP addresses for privacy.
Q: Can I make my maps private?
A: Private maps are a Pro feature. Free users can only create public maps. Upgrade to Pro to create private maps that are only visible to you and people with temporary access tokens.
Q: Do you sell user data?
A: No. We don't sell, rent, or share your personal data.
Troubleshooting
Q: My map isn't loading
A: Try refreshing the page, clearing browser cache, or using incognito mode. If the problem persists, contact support.
Q: Locations are appearing in the wrong place
A: You can drag location markers to adjust their position on the map, or delete and re-add the location with a different address.
Q: I can't log in
A: Verify your email and password, try password reset (link on login page), or clear browser cookies.
Q: My embed isn't showing
A: Ensure your map is public, check if your website allows iframes, verify the embed code is complete, and ensure your site uses HTTPS. See Embedding Troubleshooting.
Q: AI generation failed
A: Check that you have enough credits for the operation (map generation costs 25 credits, adding locations costs 15 credits). Simplify your prompt if it's too complex. Try again in a moment.
Q: I lost my maps
A: If you created maps anonymously, they're tied to your browser's stored data and expire after 30 days of inactivity. Create an account and your anonymous maps will be automatically claimed if you sign up from the same browser.
Account Management
Q: How do I change my password?
A: Dashboard > Profile > Change Password section.
Q: How do I delete my account?
A: Account deletion is not currently available in the UI. Contact support to request account deletion.
Q: Can I change my username?
A: Yes, as often as you want. Dashboard > Profile > Username section.
Q: I didn't receive my verification email
A: Check your spam folder. If still not received, try requesting a new verification email or contact support.
Limits & Quotas
Q: How many maps can I create?
A: Free: 10 maps. Pro: Unlimited.
Q: What's the credit limit for AI operations?
A: Logged-in Free: 50 credits/day. Logged-in Pro: 3,000 credits/month. Anonymous: 50 credits lifetime (IP-based). Different operations cost different amounts: map generation (25), add locations (15), descriptions (1).
Q: How many locations per AI generation?
A: Up to 10 locations per generation (not 25 or 100).
Q: Is there a storage limit?
A: There are no explicit storage quotas currently enforced.
Q: How many embed views can I get?
A: There are no embed view limits currently enforced.
Q: How do credits work?
A: Each AI operation consumes credits based on its complexity. Generating a map costs 25 credits (includes geocoding), adding locations costs 15 credits, and generating descriptions costs 1 credit. Free users reset daily at midnight UTC; Pro users reset monthly on their billing date.
Q: How many geocoding requests can I make?
A: 1,000 requests per day for all logged-in users (Free and Pro).

- Custom base maps beyond the 5 Mapbox styles
